Night at the Museum

Before even jumping into anything about this blog post I do want to give a major shout out to the Nuclear Museum in ABQ, NM. This was my first time entering for a chance to compete in a photography competition and I think overall, it was a great experience. People from all over the city came and spent time in the museum learning from the staff and curators. They even had local photographers who were established in their fields come in and give brief presentations on their editing styles and give insight as to how they made their own way through the road of photography.

This experience as a whole was also very humbling. I came in with just my Canon 90d, a 50mm Lens, and some hopes of at least capturing something worth submitting. While going throughout the museum there were a ton of other photographers with their own personal equipment and honestly at first, it was daunting. There were moments where I did not think I was going to be able to capture anything that these professionals were able to capture. Throughout the course of the night, the anxiety definitely crept on me but we held strong.

Once we finished and I got to go back home and go through my post editing process, I had a moment where I realized that even if I didn’t place within the competition, I would at least be able to say that I was competing with other professionals. I submitted my work, and I waited. After about 3 weeks, I got an email that stated I had actually placed 2nd and 3rd, and I was going to have an opportunity to have one of my photos placed in the calendar for the upcoming year! Unfortunately, I later found out that only one of my pictures was going to make it in for the sake of being fair. That was more than enough for me! This competition itself was a lot of fun, and one that I did not think that I would even have the opportunity of participating in. If and when it opens up again, I would highly encourage anyone to partake!
